Yangon

Yangon Panorama

Yangon Panorama

Yangon is the financial, business and political capital of Myanmar. Although administrative capital had moved to newly and hastily built Naypyidaw in central Myanmar, Yangon, with its 5 million plus people, largest port in the country, only true international airport, its beautiful colonial buildings, Shwedagon Pagoda, and country’s political icon Aung San Su Kyi, remains the most important city in the country. Any one who visits Yangon will be amazed at its lively streets, old but majestic colonial era buildings, its multicultural lifestyle, and the tranquil and peaceful Shwedagon Pagoda.

Mandalay

Mandalay Palace

Mandalay Palace

The last capital of Myanmar kings, Mandalay is always considered by Myanmar and foreigners alike as the cultural capital of Myanmar. In fact, there are more places to visit in and around Mandalay than in Yangon. Although in recent years, Mandalay saw influx of Chinese, Mandalay still retains the old ways of living to a certain extent.

Bagan

Bagan, heart and soul of Myanmar, is everyone’s destination. A flat, dry land with over 4000 ancient pagodas, Bagan is often referred to as The Land of Thousand Pagodas. We have only a few articles on Bagan right now, but we are in the process of complete guide to Bagan and it’s ancient massive temples and pagodas.

Inle Lake

Shan Highland, situated in the Eastern part of Myanmar is a wonder in itself. The largest state in Myanmar, there are a large number of places to visit. From Inle Lake, one of the largest inland lake in South East Asia to vibrant border towns, Shan State will more than satisfy the visitors. We have a few articles about Shan State, with complete guide to Inle Lake. More articles are on the way, so be patient and revisit again in a few weeks.

Maymyo (Pyinoolwin)

Just a few hours’ drive from Mandalay, May Myo (Pyin Oo Lwin) is a sharp contrast to former royal capital. Originally built as a summer resort for the colonial British government in Burma, May Myo is cool, green and quiet all year. The town still retains its former glory in its evergreen parks and gardens, colonial era buildings and old style living.

Chin State

Falam, Chin Hills

Falam, Chin Hills

Remote. Backward. Harsh. Poverty. Starvation. Oppression. These are the terms that are used to describe Chin Hills by outsiders. However, in reality, Chin Hills region is the most preserved, most original, and most beautiful place in Myanmar. Difficult to reach and out of bound for most foreigners until recently, Chin Hills region will present the rare visitors the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The place I have personally lived and love.

Currently, foreigners are not allowed to travel Tamu at India border. Traveling beyond Tamu needs special permission from the central government.
